1967

Did you know oysters from the Mare Santonum, the Sea of the Santons (that is, «Marennes-Oléron»), were celebrated in Roman times?

Ancient Rome imported them pickled or salted in barrels. Already regarded as delicacies and served at lavish feasts, they have retained their prestige through the ages.

In 1967, the story of oysters crossed paths with that of Guy POGET. Amid the mists and currents of Europe’s largest and most fertile mudflats, he purchased his first lease at Mornac-sur-Seudre, a charming oyster-farming village listed among the most beautiful in France.

In pursuit of excellence, Guy POGET cultivated “La Fine du Galon d’Or.” With firm, generous, briny flesh, it immediately earned wide acclaim.

1981

In 1981, driven by curiosity and feeling slightly confined in Charentais waters, Guy POGET conducted his first grow-out trials on the sandy shores of Utah Beach, in the Baie des Veys, Normandy.

At the confluence of four rivers the Taute, Douve, Aure and Vire the foreshore provides a richly nutritious environment, full of plankton, minerals and trace elements, giving the oysters an exceptional taste. As the saying goes, “the claire is to the oyster what the barrel is to wine.”

Thus, enriched by these two terroirs, La Maison POGET’s Spéciale oyster was born generous, firm, crisp, and lightly sweet, with an extra touch of soul.

This is Spéciales l’Exquise.

2005

Expertise and passion passed on so well that Thierry POGET, Guy’s son raised to the rhythm of Charentais and Norman tides attended an aquaculture high school and joined the family venture in 1984. At that time, the Paris market absorbed the production.

New leases set up in 2005 enabled European expansion through partnerships built on trust and mutual respect.
In 2020, born of the meeting between two enthusiasts, Thierry POGET and Grégory Dewitte, the Huîtrerie POGET De Witte opened its doors. Les Huîtres POGET are now available to visitors from around the world on Île Saint-Louis in Paris.
